In a 24-hour wetsuit swim in an endless pool, Dave Tonge of Wales set a new world record on Friday, June 11th, establishing a new record for the longest effort of its kind. Tonge's fundraising efforts resulted in more than £6000 (approximately $8200 USD) being donated to the Velindre Cancer Hospital in Cardiff.
Tonge swam 60,000 meters in freestyle over the course of a 24-hour period, repeating a pattern of 25 minutes of movement followed by 5 minutes of rest.
To prepare for this day-long event, the Heathwood Swim Coach completed two 12-hour long swims to help him get in shape beforehand. His first concert raised more than £5000 for National Health Service charities, and his second concert assisted in raising $2000 for Velindre.Tonge swam 21 miles in 12.5 hours in an endless pool in April of 2020, Swim classes for adults are beneficial for a variety of reason a time that corresponded to an average nurse/doctor shift caring for coronavirus patients. We reported on this feat in April of 2020.
