You could ban cheat customers and perhaps find folks not using the client that is authorized? If that is possible, I am not sure.
It's not possible. Sure, you may add additional integrity checks but finally they can be disabled. It is just an arms race at that point. Anti-cheat needs to be performed on the server, and the only reliable way is with behavioral analysis. Any"am I the true software" tests can be spoofed. This is the answer. But unfortunately analysis can be quite a hard thing to utilize to ascertain a bot or actual RuneScape player. Anything that I can think of that may be used to detect a bot can be countered by the bot.
Screen rotate, click delay, break handling, checking stats, even auto. All of these are things which are cared for by the bot script that can make it impossible to find a bot versus a real RuneScape player. You know those testing centers for the SAT? Have you constantly supervised, and where they accept your government ID on camera, in person, and on mic? Jagex should just let people play those.
