Detroit Lions' Dan Skipper Announces Retirement
24 Jan 2026 in 10:56am
On Thursday, beloved Detroit Lions offensive forward Dan Skipper officially announced his retirement from the NFL on his social media accounts. For 24 years, he wore protective gear, a helmet, and a nfl jersey every year. This year, he felt it was time to say goodbye to the field.
The 31-year-old Skipper went undrafted in 2017 and bounced around the practice rosters of several teams early in his career. He finally found his place with the Lions in 2019. From 2019 until now, he has worn the Detroit Lions jerseys, playing 66 games and starting 16 as a versatile forward.
In recent years, the Lions have frequently used Skipper as a receiver in specially designed plays; he was even assigned to run routes on the outside. However, Skipper suffered from a back injury this season, forcing him to make the decision to retire. However, he won't be far from the fans. His future plans are clear: to become a coach.EndFragment-->
