Candace Parker made big news recently when she was chosen to 2K MT PS4 be on the cover of NBA2K22. Her ex- Los Angeles Sparks teammate and mentor, Lisa Leslie, paved the way when she was included in Backyard Basketball in 2001. Candace Parker was chosen to represent NBA2K22. This marks the first time that a female basketball player has been awarded this honor. Actually, it was her Los Angeles Sparks teammate and mentor Lisa Leslie who paved the way for women's representation in basketball video games.
Prior to PlayStation 5, 4 and 3, around the time NBA2K2 was in development, Leslie appeared in Humungous Entertainment's Backyard Basketball (2001).While it was the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett who made the cover of first Backyard Basketball, Leslie was included in the game and you could play the game as her and Garnett.
Houston Comets stars Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes both missed the 2001 WNBA season. Cooper went on to retire after the 2000 season with a record of two MVPs and four-time champion before returning in 2003. Swoopes played in the four championships and was the league's reigning MVP.
