It would be quite simple to come up with an automated model

More broadly, I'm just pointing out OSRS gold that its really tough to'hide' an artificial restriction (at least one that makes a significant impact) on a market if there is sufficient data readily available on the market. Product prices and demand curves are revealing on stuff like that. There might be workarounds, like obfuscating by using a list of things instead of just one that are randomly selected or intentionally jumped around. If executed word for 16, but it would definitely be an issue for OP's layout.
Make it an occurance that occurs at the end of the ditch that is gold. If ultimately 10billion is tossed afterward the correlating GE sales of this arbitrary unknown thing are subsequently purchased out. No notification of it happening. No chance for abuse. To minimize abuse potential even further I'd also suggest making the buyouts occur at random intervals, to stop people from only stockpiling random things and then posting them at 9.9% over market place before the buyout happens. So if the buyouts are arbitrary its still possible to do so, but you'd be sacrificing all your GE slots to have things sitting there all of the time so it would be a gamble.
It would be quite simple to come up with an automated model to predict/identify them based on stuff like cost swings and transaction volume. And identification fully anticipate if that were to go live as suggested sites such as'getracker' would put in a tool in their front page suggesting these items. Why would you assume the things are being purchased as the gp comes from or they just would not show trades done this way as part of their trading volume considering its not.
It would not be difficult to conceal at all if they wanted to, there is an insane variety of ways to accomplish that. Doesn't make your premises correct because there's ways around it. I mean that the things are bought from somebody right? Sell offers are being stuffed? I could be wrong on this but my premise is that the ge tracker websites take data from apps like runelite, or in certain way that isn't data given directly from jagex. You're correct they could conceal it if all data on sell/buy offers is taken straight from RS 2007 Gold a API jagex has direct control over, and there's no other way of receiving it out of customers, but I don't think that's the situation.
