Hufflepuff and its house spaces hold a lot of mystery for Harry Potter fans. While all of the Hogwarts houses are beloved by fans of the Harry Potter series and Hogwarts Legacy, Hufflepuff is perhaps the least explored in the novels and films. With the exception of Cedric Diggory, none of the central characters in the story have anything to do with the house. In the universe, the academy is often ridiculed by members of the student body and even sometimes dismissed by some of the school's faculty. All Hogwarts houses are associated with certain traits, and students are categorized according to which traits they most strongly embody. While the other three houses are all associated with strengths, such as smartness in Ravenclaw or bravery in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff is different. Although Hufflepuffs are seen as weak, they work hard. Hufflepuff is not associated with strength but with one's work ethic, and its pupils are patient, loyal, and resilient. Much of the house's imagery is rooted in nature, and its founders believe that given time and space, anyone can grow into something to be proud of.

Hufflepuff is the most neglected and belittled house
Hufflepuff is the only house that Harry and his friends never visit during the events of the film. While Ravenclaws and Slytherins both received scenes set against the walls of their houses during the events of the series, Hufflepuffs never got the same treatment. Moreover, this neglect extends beyond the film adaptation. The Ravenclaw house is visited in the books, and the movie simplifies the scene to take place in the stairwell, but Hufflepuff never receives this. Because of this, the creators of Hogwarts Legacy have little to go on with in terms of visual cues.

This lack of information extends to the novel as well. While Rowling goes on to describe the house in extended material online outside of the book, Hufflepuff is never visited in the actual text of the novel. With descriptions of Hufflepuff scattered and vague, Avalanche has an interesting opportunity. Hufflepuff is completely unknown to all but the most devoted fans. Unlike the Gryffindor common room, which carries the expectations of moviegoers, the developers of Hogwarts Legacy have enormous latitude in developing and presenting Hufflepuff House and its common spaces.

How the Hogwarts legacy portrays Hufflepuff
The Hufflepuff common room, like the Slytherin common room, is located underground. The entrance resembles a wine cellar, and the player enters through a large wooden hole that resembles a wine barrel or even a hobbit hole. The common room has brick walls and is warmly lit. Plants abound, which is appropriate given the house's connection to nature. Large wooden arches provide support and give the house a cottage feel. Further inside, the dormitories are hidden behind more circular doors, more closely resembling the hobbit dwellings in The Lord of the Rings. Like Gryffindor House, it's cozy, but its underground setting makes it even more spacious.

The warm lighting and cozy, nature-filled interiors of the Hufflepuff common room are perfect for this house. While the rest of the series ignored Hufflepuffs, the Hogwarts legacy took this as an opportunity to finally give Hufflepuffs the home they deserved. Drawing on the characteristics associated with the house and the qualities of the students, Avalanche has created a common room faithful to the Harry Potter universe. While the movies don't provide any inspiration for the game about the common room, if they choose to expand the story with visits to the Hufflepuff living quarters, it wouldn't be surprising to see Max's Harry Potter adaptation employing this concept of space.
